Responding to Allegations

If you are alleged to have violated the UC Policy on Sexual Violence and Sexual Harassment — including sexual violence, sexual assault, sexual harassment, dating violence, domestic violence and stalking — there are campus resources available to help you understand your rights and help you navigate the investigation and adjudication processes.

Respondent Services Coordinator

Respondent Services Coordinators facilitate fair and equitable services for the Respondent. They are available to explain the investigative and adjudication processes, as well as provide referrals to other services.

Student Respondents

In fulfilling the recommendation(s) set forth by President Napolitano's Task Force on Sexual Violence and Sexual Assault, the Office of Student Conduct (OSC) is the umbrella office for support services for students, particularly Respondents, who are involved with pending investigations and adjudications of sexual violence and sexual harassment (SVSH) cases. After a Respondent receives a Notice of Investigation for a possible SVSH violation, OSC will connect them with a Respondent Support Advisor to provide assistance and support as they go through the process.

A Respondent Support Advisor can help Respondents understand their rights and responsibilities; explain and help them navigate the investigation and adjudication processes; provide accompaniments to investigation, adjudication, appeal and other meetings (if wanted); make referrals to campus and community resources for counseling, legal services, alternative housing, course changes and other needs; and assist with securing an interpreter or translator (if needed). Respondent Support Advisors receive training on relevant policies and processes, essential campus resources and their roles in helping students through the process.

It is important to note that the staff providing respondent services are not legally required to maintain confidentiality. However, as a general practice, the staff will request signed consent from you before disclosing personally identifiable information.

One of the following UC San Diego staff members will be assigned by OSC to serve as a student’s Respondent Support Advisor:

  • Cesar Figueroa — Warren College Residential Life
  • Mario Garibay — Muir College Residential Life

For more information about Respondent Support Advisors, please contact the Office of Student Conduct at (858) 534-6225 or studentconduct@ucsd.edu.
